Volunteer

Volunteers are a very important part of our organization. We rely on our dedicated and trustworthy volunteers for many tasks both at the shelter and at our events. There are many volunteer opportunities at the shelter. Below are some ways you can get involved to help the animals and have a fulfilling experience:

Walking Dogs

  • Gives our wonderful dogs (and you!) exercise, fresh air and companionship
  • Allows some leash training which is a plus for adoption
  • Lets the animals have some personal one on one attention

Grooming/Playing With Cats

  • Gives our wonderful cats exercise and companionship
  • Allows the cats more human interaction which is a plus for adoption
  • Lets the animals have some personal one on one attention

Bathing Animals

  • All animals are bathed before surgery
  • Other animals are bathed on an "as needed" basis

Cleaning Cages and Runs

  • All cages and runs are scooped & sterilized daily
  • It's a great help to the staff and helps us to meet the 11am opening time
  • It's an opportunity to handle each animal and give them love and attention
  • You can work with dogs or cats or both!

Other Volunteer Opportunities

  • Office work
  • Answering Phones
  • Collecting the money from the donation banks in local businesses
  • Minor shelter repairs
  • Painting
  • Distributing event flyers
  • Special Events - Fundraising events, parades, adopt-a-thons, Walk for the Animals, working the GSHS information booth, golf tournament, the list goes on and on!

There is always an animal that needs love or something that needs to be done at the shelter. Please consider donating some of your time to help the homeless and abandoned animals.

If you would like to volunteer at the shelter, please fill out the volunteer application here.
