A letter from Bow Arrowton, a Grand Strand Humane Society Resident
July 8, 2011
My name is Bow. Not because I’m a beautiful black & white kitty, even though I am, and not because I look like I wear a bow tie; but because I was shot with a bow and arrow and survived.
My story is a sad one with a lesson to be learned. I lived happily in a community where nice people fed me, let me sleep under their steps and play in their yards. One day I was just playing in the sun, chasing my tail and suddenly I felt this agonizing pain. I fell down and couldn’t get back up. There was something sticking through my body and blood was coming out of a hole. I cried and cried. A little while later, I heard one of my community friends shout out “the kitten has been injured; someone call a Myrtle Beach Animal Control Officer”. When Becky arrived she was so kind and gentle. At first, she thought I died and was surprised to discover I was still alive – using one of my nine lives, I guess. Becky took me to the hospital at Grand Strand Humane Society. I heard everybody talking about how appalled and upset they were that someone would shoot me with a bow and arrow, I must be in terrible pain. I had to have surgery to remove the arrow. Fortunately, the arrow didn’t damage any vital organs, but Dr. Michelle had to be so careful and remove the arrow in three pieces. Dr. Michelle said it appeared that someone stood very close to me and used me for target practice. Then they left me to die. I didn’t see them coming, so I didn’t run away. I thought everybody loved me, loved to hear me purr – I never knew humans could be so cruel and heartless. Now I’m afraid all the time.
I write this to let all of my furry friends know it is illegal to harm us. People can be arrested, put in jail and charged fines for cruelty to animals. Why would people do such horrible things to us? We only love them and try to make them happy.
If you have any information about anyone shooting or harming cats or dogs, please call my new friend, Sandy Brown, at Grand Strand Humane Society at 843-918-4911 or the local authorities at 843-918-1382. These bad people are breaking the law and must be stopped.
I’m feeling so much better. I’m getting a lot of love and attention from my new friends. I have eight lives to go and they will be spent in a permanent home with a loving family. Grand Strand Humane Society will see that I never live outside in danger again.
Sincerely,
Bow Arrowton
